The Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School (Nanguo Yanyuan), relying on Peking University and based in Shenzhen, has gradually become an international research campus of Peking University deeply rooted in Shenzhen and an important part of Peking University's strategy to establish a world-class university. Its educational policy is "cutting-edge fields, interdisciplinary studies, applied academics, international standards," and its development concept is "problem-oriented, AI-driven, North-South collaboration, innovative integration." The School of Environment and Energy Sciences is one of the five science and engineering schools of Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School. Oriented towards major strategic needs such as national ecological civilization construction, carbon peaking and neutrality, and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the school focuses on developing academic directions such as atmospheric environmental science, water environmental science and engineering, environmental technologies for pollution reduction and carbon reduction, big data for smart environmental energy, and mangrove conservation and ecological restoration. Students with backgrounds in environment, biology, chemistry, materials, geography, hydrology, computer science, and related fields are welcome to apply.
I. Admissions Programs
In 2025, the School of Environment and Energy of Peking University will adopt the "application-assessment" selection method to recruit international students from abroad (hereinafter referred to as international students) for master's degree programs. The master's degree programs for international postgraduate students are offered in Environmental Science and Engineering, with a full-time study mode and Chinese as the language of instruction. The duration of study is 3 years.
II. Application Requirements
Applicants must meet the following basic requirements simultaneously:
Non-Chinese citizens holding valid foreign passports. For residents of mainland China (including Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR, and Taiwan region) who have immigrated and acquired foreign nationality and are applying as international students, they must hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certification document before April 30, 2019, and possess proof of having their Chinese nationality cancelled.
Note: Whether an applicant holds foreign nationality while possessing Chinese nationality is subject to the nationality determination by the Exit and Entry Administration of the Chinese public security organs. Applicants who are determined to hold Chinese nationality during the application, admission, or after enrollment will have their application qualification, admission qualification, enrollment qualification, or student status revoked.
In good physical and mental health, with good moral character, no criminal record, and a willingness to abide by Chinese laws, regulations, and school rules and regulations.
Applicants for master's degree programs should hold a bachelor's degree awarded by an institution recognized by the Chinese Ministry of Education (acceleration or transfer during undergraduate studies is not accepted).
The applicant's academic performance, academic level, language ability, and other conditions must meet the entrance requirements of the applied program.

Fill out the application and upload the following application materials:
Original degree certificate and degree verification report in Chinese or English.
If the degree certificate is in another language, the original document and a notarized translation in Chinese or English must be uploaded simultaneously.
Applicants who obtained their degree from a foreign university must submit a degree verification report from the China Scholarship Council's Overseas Education Service Center in principle.
Applicants who obtained their degree from a mainland Chinese university must submit a degree verification report from China Higher Education Student Information Net (CHESICC) in principle.
Note: Graduated applicants must submit a degree verification report when applying in principle. Fresh graduates must submit an original certificate of expected graduation or proof of enrollment when applying. Upon conditional admission, they must submit their academic qualifications before enrollment.

Two letters of recommendation from professors or associate professors (or experts with equivalent professional titles) in the field of the applied program, in Chinese or English.

Applicants should submit score reports or other relevant proof of Chinese proficiency meeting the following standards: HSK Level 6 with a score of 200 or above, including a writing (composition) score of no less than 65.
Note: Applicants who have taken the new HSK Levels 7-9 can submit corresponding qualifying score reports.

The passport must be a regular passport valid for at least three months after enrollment.
Personal research achievements.
Published academic article directories with abstracts and other original research results (if any).
Note: All original documents of the above supporting materials must be submitted as clear color-scanned copies obtained from a scanner. Documents taken with a mobile phone or camera are not accepted.
V. Preliminary Review of Materials and Final Interview
The International Student Office will conduct a preliminary review of applicants' qualifications and application materials and forward the application materials of those who pass the preliminary review to the respective admissions departments.
Our scgool will establish an admissions expert panel to review the past academic performance, academic foundation, and development potential of eligible applicants based on materials, and select candidates for the final interview based on merit.
The final interview is tentatively scheduled for March to April 2025. Specific interview formats, requirements, and schedules will be announced separately on our school's official website after confirmation. Applicants should check the relevant announcements on our school's website promptly. Members of the interview panel will grade independently on-site and evaluate applicants' professional qualities, research capabilities, language abilities, innovative spirit, and overall qualities.
VI. Admission
The university will conduct a comprehensive evaluation of applicants based on their preliminary review of materials, final interview scores, and departmental admission recommendations, and determine a merit-based list of conditionally admitted students.
The conditionally admitted list will be announced on the Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School website by the end of May. Applicants should closely monitor the announcement information.
Conditionally admitted students must submit the downloaded and printed original application form and other original application materials (excluding degree certificates and letters of recommendation) by May 31, 2025, in person or by mail to the Admissions Office of theSchool of Environment and Energy, Peking University.

VII. Registration
The specific registration time for new students will be indicated on the letter of admission.
International students admitted to the university should report to the school within the specified time with their passport, study visa for China, and letter of admission. Upon registration, new students must bring their original degree certificate for the school to verify their enrollment qualification. Applicants who obtained their degree from a foreign university should also submit the original degree verification report from the China Scholarship Council's Overseas Education Service Center. Those who do not meet the enrollment conditions will have their enrollment qualification revoked.
VIII. Tuition Fees and Scholarships
Tuition Fee Standard: 33,000 Chinese yuan per academic year for master's students
Scholarships
(1) New international students can apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship "High-Level Graduate Student" program, which includes full or partial tuition waivers, accommodation, medical insurance, and a monthly living allowance according to national standards.
(2) School of Environment and Energy Scholarships: The school will provide scholarships to outstanding students as appropriate.
IX. Visa, Medical Insurance, and Accommodation
Admitted students must apply for a study visa to China at the Chinese embassy or consulate in their home country using their letter of admission and the "Foreign Student Confirmation Form for Coming to China" (JW201/202 Form). Students with a study duration of more than 6 months must apply for an X1 visa and must change it to a residence permit for study within 30 days of arriving in China at the International Student Office.
According to the regulations of the Chinese Ministry of Education, international students studying in China must purchase medical insurance within China. Students who fail to purchase the required medical insurance will not be able to register at the school.
Accommodation for international students will be arranged according to the relevant regulations of Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School.
X. Graduation and Degree Conferral
Upon completion of the study period, fulfilling all requirements stipulated in the training program, achieving passing grades, and successfully defending the thesis, students will be granted graduation. Upon review and approval by the University's Degree Evaluation Committee, the corresponding degree will be conferred.
XI. Other Matters
The university does not allow graduate students to hold two or more student statuses simultaneously.
Applicants should promptly pay attention to relevant documents and notices issued or sent by the university and our school. Any consequences arising from personal negligence or other reasons on the part of the applicant shall be borne by the applicant themselves.
Matters not covered herein shall be handled in accordance with the relevant policies of higher authorities and the university.
