Professor Haifeng HUANG earned his Ph.D. from Humboldt University of Berlin, Germany in 2000. He previously studied at the Hopkins-Nanjing Center for Chinese and American Studies (1991-1992), the School of Economics of Peking University (1988-1991), and Dalian Jiaotong University (1979-1983), and served as a visiting scholar at the China Research Center of the University of Hawaii, the Donald Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), and the International Development Law Organization, respectively. His research encompasses sustainable development strategy, environmental management, business ethics, economic transition, green leadership, and responsible management education. Since October 2025, he has held the positions of Senior Advisor and Adjunct Professor at the School of Environment and Energy, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School; Senior Advisor and Council Member of the China Zigen Rural Education and Development Promotion Association; and Adjunct Professor at Nanjing Audit University. In 2026, he began his role as the Series Editor for Springer's renowned book series "Transformative Education for Eco-innovation and Responsible Management," overseeing its strategic development and academic direction. Throughout his career, Professor HUANG has held significant academic positions including:

Additionally, Professor HUANG has organized, planned, or chaired major international forums such as China's First Beijing International Forum on WTO Accession, China International Forum on Financial Risk Management, and the WTO and Financial Risk Management Forum,and presided over the High-Level Forum on International Issues "Energy and Environment - Cooperation and Challenge" held by Nanjing University, as well as "The Prospects of Sino-US Higher Education Exchange and Cooperation." He has been elected Vice President of the US-China Finance Association, President of the China Alumni Association of Humboldt University of Berlin, and Vice Chair of the German-Austrian Branch of the Western Returned Scholars Association. He has been invited as a Visiting Professor to teach at Freie Universität Berlin, Germany, and as an expert by Chinese government ministries to participate in Sino-German intergovernmental cooperation and exchanges. In 2015, he attended the "China-EU Urbanization Partnership Forum" hosted by the European Commission and co-chaired related sessions with the renowned French economist Pierre Calame.
During his working as funding Director of the PHBS Green Economy Research Center at Peking University, Professor Haifeng HUANG co-founded the Environmental Auditing Committee of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences in 2015 in collaboration with renowned domestic scholars and served as its Deputy Chair. He has led or participated in numerous national-level environmental policy research projects, such as those on circular economy mechanisms and green investment assessment, providing crucial support for the theoretical development and practical advancement of environmental auditing. Furthermore, he serves as the Lifetime Advisor to the Student Green+ Association at Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, a student organization awarded the honor of "Top Ten Student Associations of Peking University" in 2025.
His research and policy contributions have been commended on multiple occasions by relevant state ministries and commissions, particularly in the fields of waste management and green economy transition. His 2007 academic work Recycling Economy in Germany received the Ministry of Education's "Outstanding Achievement Award for Scientific Research in Higher Education Institutions" (Humanities and Social Sciences) and the Excellent Environmental Science & Technology Worker Award from the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences. He served as an Expert Committee Member for the UNEP "Green Economy Report," participating in its discussions and exchanges. As the author of over ten influential books, his 2009 proposal "Comprehensive Promotion of Waste Classification," submitted on behalf of Beijing Municipal Committeethe of China National Democratic Construction Association, was honored with the Most Influential Proposal Award in Beijing. Given his contributions to education for sustainable development, the renowned global think tank The Club of Rome has praised him, noting that Huang’s work has received national and international recognition, marking him as a pivotal figure in promoting responsible management education and sustainable development globally.
